Scirpo sylvatici-Cirsietum cani

Wet meadows with Cirsium canum occur at lower altitudes, in warmer and drier areas. Soils are heavy, well saturated with bases, in some places also slightly saline, and drier than in other associations of the alliance Calthion palustris.

Orig. (Balátová-Tuláčková 1973): Scirpo-Cirsietum cani ass. nova (Scirpus sylvaticus)

Diagnostic species: Carex disticha, Cirsium canum, Festuca pratensis, Lathyrus pratensis

Constant species: Achillea millefolium agg. (predominantly A. millefolium s. str. a A. pratensis), Alopecurus pratensis, Caltha palustris, Cardamine pratensis agg. (predominantly C. pratensis s. str.), Carex acuta, Cerastium holosteoides subsp. triviale, Cirsium canum, Deschampsia cespitosa, Equisetum palustre, Festuca pratensis, F. rubra agg., Galium uliginosum, Holcus lanatus, Lathyrus pratensis, Lychnis flos-cuculi, Lysimachia nummularia, Poa pratensis s. l., P. trivialis, Ranunculus acris, R. auricomus agg., R. repens, Rumex acetosa, Sanguisorba officinalis, Scirpus sylvaticus

Dominant species: Alopecurus pratensis, Carex acuta, C. cespitosa, C. panicea, Cirsium canum, Deschampsia cespitosa, Equisetum palustre, Lathyrus pratensis, Poa pratensis s. l., P. trivialis, Ranunculus repens, Scirpus sylvaticus

Formal definition: Cirsium canum cover > 5 % AND (Group Caltha palustris OR Group Lychnis flos-cuculi) NOT Group Leucanthemum vulgare
