Violion caninae Schwickerath 1944

This alliance includes grasslands with Nardus stricta and other oligotrophic grasses occurring on nutrient-poor and moderately dry soils. It is distributed from the lowland areas to the montane belt in western and Central Europe.

Diagnostic species: Agrostis capillaris, Antennaria dioica, Anthoxanthum odoratum s. l. (A. odoratum s. str.), Briza media, Carlina acaulis, Danthonia decumbens, Dianthus deltoides, Euphrasia rostkoviana, Festuca rubra agg., Hieracium pilosella, Luzula campestris agg., Nardus stricta, Polygala vulgaris, Potentilla erecta, Thymus pulegioides, Viola canina

Constant species: Achillea millefolium agg. (predominantly A. millefolium s. str.), Agrostis capillaris, Alchemilla vulgaris s. l., Anthoxanthum odoratum s. l. (A. odoratum s. str.), Briza media, Campanula rotundifolia agg., Danthonia decumbens, Festuca rubra agg., Hieracium pilosella, Leontodon hispidus, Leucanthemum vulgare agg., Lotus corniculatus, Luzula campestris agg., Nardus stricta, Pimpinella saxifraga, Plantago lanceolata, Polygala vulgaris, Potentilla erecta, Ranunculus acris, Rumex acetosa, Thymus pulegioides, Trifolium pratense, T. repens, Veronica chamaedrys agg. (V. chamaedrys s. str.), Viola canina; Rhytidiadelphus squarrosus
