Compared to the previous association, Spergulo-Scleranthetum occurs in cooler areas, being common in the submontane zone, although it can be also found on wet and nutrient-poor soils in the lowlands. Besides cereal fields, where it is most common, it occurs in root crop fields, oil-seed rape fields, on recent fallows and stubbles. Soils are sandy-loamy to loamy, usually cambisols, in places gleyic. This association develops in summer.
