Oficiální zadání:
Important records of the Late Pleistocene geologic history of Svalbard archipelago represent raised marine terraces. They expose sediments of several glacial advances, which provide basis for the reconstruction of an evolution of archipelago during Pleistocene and Holocene times. Pleistocene/Holocene transition is a highly interesting period due to conditions highly similar to present with retreat of glaciers and rapid global temperature rise. Knowledge about this time period is therefore very important in studying the effect of rapid temperature rise on the high Arctic near-shore environments. Palaeontological remains within the glacimarine sediments, such as fossil molluscs, are valuable indicators of palaeoecological/environmental conditions. The thesis is aimed to reconstruct these conditions with the use of palaeoenvironmental proxies hidden in organic remains, mainly fossil molluscs. The result of this thesis will complement sedimentological reconstructions from the northern part of the Billefjorden area conducted by the Czech team during last few years.
