Proximity of different perovskite oxides in epitaxially grown heterostructures can give rise to new properties either due to the interaction of the fundamental state of the constituents or due to the electronic reconstruction on the interface. A prominent example of such electronic reconstruction is the two dimensional electron gas formed on the interface between two insulators LaAlO3 and SrTiO3. Infrared ellipsometry has proven to be sensitive enough to probe and quantify these interfacial effects [1]. In this experimental PhD project, student will help with construction of a low-temperature far-infrared ellipsometer which is in progress within CEITEC. Consequently the student will use the instrument to study low-lying electronic excitation of various oxide heterostructures depending on availability of samples. Among the heterostructures envisaged for investigations belongs LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interface, LaCrO3/LaAlO3 superlattices and analogous systems. [1] A. Dubroka et al.
