Název práce: Structural studies of enveloped viruses from families Flaviviridae and Orthomyxoviridae

Enveloped viruses from families Flaviviridae and Orthomyxoviridae are causative agents of diseases that can be lethal and impose substantial economic burden in treatment expenses. This research project will be focused on Zika virus (ZIKV) from the family Flaviviridae and Influenza A virus from the family Orthomyxoviridae. The student will use X-ray crystallography to determine structure of envelope protein of ZKV. He/she will then use cryo-electron microscopy to study structure of the whole ZIKV virion. In addition, the student will use focused ion beam milling and cryo-electron tomography to structurally characterize replication of ZIKV and Influenza A. Molecular level characterization of the virions and of the infection processes might identify new targets for anti-virus inhibitors.
