Topic name: Cryo-EM studies of mechanisms by which Leishmania RNA virus (LRV) increases virulence of Leishmania strains

Předběžné zadání:
Twelve million people worldwide suffer from leishmaniasis. Strains of Leishmania Viannia carrying LRV are associated with serious variants of the disease. dsRNAs, released from LRV modulate inflammatory response of the Leishmania-infected macrophages and render them ineffective in clearing of Leishmania infection. The student will use cryo-electron microscopy and tomography to study structural changes of Leishmania cells and LRV virions necessary for the release of LRV dsRNA. Thus, he/she will characterize processes that lead to the increased virulence of LRV carrying Leishmania strains.
