Goal of this PhD thesis is to modify electrospun polycaprolactone (PCL) micro/nanofibers by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposited (PECVD) thin films containing biologically active functional groups such as carboxyls or amines. The aim to test both, low and atmospheric pressure discharges, and understand the differences in the interaction of fibrous materials with different plasmas. The motivation is to find correlations between the plasma conditions and PCL structure on one hand and the properties and surface chemistry of the products, i.e. plasmachemically prepared composites, on the other hand. Consequently, the adsorption of proteins and interaction of cells with plasma modified PCL surfaces will be investigated in order to understand the phenomena important for tissue engineering applications or biosensors.
