Czech and Slovak Dipterological Literature 1758-1965

The bibliography presented is the first part of an attempt at a complete bibliography of the post-Linnean literature on dipterology referring to the territory of Czechoslovakia in its present boundaries. It embraces systematic and faunistic works in a wider sense of the word. The content of the second part will include papers on general dipterology (morphology, physiology, biology, etc.), applied dipterology (pest control, etc.) including supplements to the first part.
The necessity of compiling such a bibliography appeared especially during the preparation on the check-list of Czechoslovakian Diptera as well as their perspective prodromus. In Czechoslovakia, above all, during the two last decades, dipterology reached a remarkable stage of development. But there is a constant lack of regular excerptions of older faunistic data from our territory (especially before the beginning of the present century); also recent faunistic data concerning our territory have not always been excerpted even in the works of numerous foreign authors. Lastly, a timely quotation of the numerous dipterologic articles of the latest time appears to be very desirable. The recently published directory of Czechoslovak entomologists, including those who touched the problems within the range of dipterology in at least one of their papers, quotes a number of about 86 living authors. As the recent first attempt of valorising the publications concerning Czechoslovak Diptera exposed, more than 300 titles were published just in the post-war years 1951-1965. (cf. LAŠTOVKA P., ROZKOŠNÝ R. & ZUSKA J., 1967: Faunistics and Taxonomy of Diptera in Czechoslovakia.- II. Ent. Symposium, Opava 2l.-23. IX. 1966).
In the present bibliography, only verified citations, which I was able to check myself, are included. The list of titles does not include unpublished dissertations, habilitations, not original reports from exclusively foreign sources, reviews, textbooks and manuals. My thanks are due to many of our entomologists, especially to Doc. Dr. J. ČEPELÁK (Nitra), Dr. P. LAŠTOVKA, Dr. J. MOUCHA and Dr. J. ZUSKA (Prague) for their help with providing sometimes hardly accessible sources, for their help in the revision of some data and help with compiling a historical survey.
I also want to extend my thanks to Dr. L. Jedlička. CSc and Dr. I. Országh, CSc /Faculty of Natural Sciences, J. A. Komenský University, Bratislava/ for their kind revision of the older names of localities in Slovakia.
It was my endeavour to put down the all faunistic data from Czechoslovakian territory. Notwithstanding, I have to presume that I have missed some home data as well as probably range of minor data from foreign authors´ works. I will be thankful to all users of the bibliography for any notice on further data.
