Suggested location of major field activities:
Research will take place in all of the countries involved in the project,
with special emphasis on countries encountering serious problems with
- acid mine drainage (developing countries, South Africa, China, some
European countries - e.g. Sweden, Great Britain, Slovakia, USA and Canada)
- monuments decay (European countries with most polluted environmentt,
Mediterranean countries with marine spray problems)
- production of large amounts of inorganic wastes (countries producing
most electric energy by coal combustion) - e.g. Poland, Czech Republic,
Germany, Spain
- production of highly hazardous waste (nuclear waste) - e.g. Japan,
Canada, France
Location of major laboratory research:
Laboratory research will be carried out at institutions which agree
to participate the project. Collaborative research and exchanges between
Geological Surveys, research centers, and universities will be established.
Of the most respected research centers, we can name:
- University of Bristol, Interface Analytical Centre (the probably best
equipped academic facility for surface research)
- The Lund University, Department of Chemical Engineering (Sweden)
- The Pennsylvania State University (U.S.A.)
- Czech Geological Survey
.....(to be upgraded)
NOTE TO READERS: Please let us (sulovsky@sci.muni.cz)
know if you are doing pertinent "major" research in your laboratory
facilities (does by no means mean you will have to make them available
to other participants!)
