This marsh type is dominated by compact tussocks of Carex cespitosa, which are slightly inundated over most of the growing season. The moss layer is poorly developed or absent. The high water level and the absence of a moss layer differentiate Comaro-Caricetum cespitosae from the wet meadow association Caricetum cespitosae. Comaro-Caricetum is rather rich in species compared to the other associations of the alliance, especially owing to meadow and fen species occurring on the elevated tussocks of the dominant sedge. This vegetation occurs on acidic and neutral substrates with high peat content in the upper soil layer. It has been recorded only in western Bohemia.
