This association includes species-poor stands strongly dominated by Molinia caerulea s. str. and Polytrichum commune. Species requiring higher concentrations of minerals and nutrients, as well as species of ombrotrophic bogs, are rare or absent altogether. Water level decreases regularly below the root depth. Soil is acidic and calcium-poor, with a shallow peat layer. The association is abundant in the Krkonoše Mountains at altitudes of 1000–1450 m, but it has also been recorded rarely at low altitudes, e.g. in the Třeboň Basin.
