Our colleagues have contributed to a new study published in the international journal Photosynthetica. The paper focuses on how different groups of plants and other photoautotrophic organisms respond to drought stress.

The authors investigated changes in photosynthetic performance during dehydration in species with contrasting water-management strategies, ranging from mosses and lichens to vascular plants. Using chlorophyll fluorescence techniques, they examined changes in Photosystem II activity and in the protective mechanisms that help prevent damage to the photosynthetic apparatus.

The results show that selected chlorophyll fluorescence parameters can serve as highly sensitive indicators of drought stress, allowing the detection of changes in photosynthetic performance at an early stage. The study contributes to a better understanding of the mechanisms that enable organisms to survive under water-limited conditions.
