PhD Retreat 2026
The PhD Retreat of the ExPBio programme was held on 2–3 February 2026 at the University Centre Telč. The meeting gathered PhD candidates, their supervisors, members of the ExPBio Doctoral Board, and several guest researchers, providing a dynamic space for scientific exchange, discussion, and networking.
The retreat brought together ExPBio PhD students as well as visiting students from Masaryk University and Mendel University presenting research in plant biology. Members of the doctoral board and invited experts from leading Czech research institutions—including the Institute of Experimental Botany CAS, Biology Centre CAS, Institute of Biophysics CAS, Mendel University, Palacký University, Charles University, the University of South Bohemia, and the Centre of Algal Biotechnology—also took part.
The programme further included representatives of companies and core facilities. The CELLIM core facility presented its microscopy portfolio, the Czech startup Labdeers showcased equipment for seed phenotyping and handling, and LifeM led a practical pipetting workshop. The Czech Society of Experimental Plant Biology supported the retreat and informed students about opportunities to participate in national plant biology conferences.
The social programme included an engaging and highly educational PubQuiz prepared by the PhD students. With humorous questions focused on plant biology, the quiz fostered interaction, teamwork, and informal knowledge exchange among participants.
