I. New Successful Projects
prof. Mgr. Tomáš Bartonička, Ph.D. (Department of Botany and Zoology) - From the beginning of 2024, the newly approved INTERREG Saxony-Czech Republic project Conservation of safe migration corridors for flying vertebrates in the Czech-Saxon border area starts its implementation phase. The aim of the project will be to create a map of places where protective walls reduce mortality of flying vertebrates and testing of types of walls reduce mortality of flying vertebrates. Technical documentation of a low-cost protective wall made of recyclable materials usable in both countries will be prepared.
prof. Mgr. Jiří Kučera, Ph.D. (Department of Biochemistry) - From April 1, 2024 the implementation phase of the newly approved INTERREG Austria - Czech Republic project entitled From Waste to Resource - Recycling Sewage Sludge Ash into Phosphate-rich Plant Fertilizer (PHOS4PLANT) begins. The PHOS4PLANT project aims to optimize sewage sludge incineration processes and to recover phosphorus from ash by means of bioleaching.
From May 2024, the Faculty will implement a two-year project "Introduction of a flexible work culture and support system for parents on maternity and parental leave into the working environment of the Faculty of Science of MU" funded by the "Operational Programme Employment+". The project will be led by Dr. Barbora Wahlová (HR Award team).
14 new GA CR projects starting from January 2024 at Faculty of Science:
- 12 Standard grant projects (10 of them as a principal investigator, 2 as a partner)
- 1 JUNIOR STAR project
- 1 International project with Taiwanese agency NSTC
2 new Czech-Austrian projects (MOBILTY, MEYS) at Faculty of Science selected for funding (Ing. Jaroslav Ženíšek, Ph.D., Mgr. Ondřej Caha, Ph.D.)
New projects of the Ministry of Agriculture EARTH II start in March 2024 at the Faculty of Science:
- RNDr. Pavel Hyršl, Ph.D. (Department of Animal Physiology and Immunology) Strategy for mitigating the influence of the Varroa destructor mite and associated viruses on the health and vitality of bee colonies in the changing climatic conditions of the Czech Republic.
- Mgr. Pavel Sťahel, Ph.D. (Department of Plasma Physics and Technology) Aquaculture of the 21st century - modern, smart and environment-friendly
6 new GAMU projects starting at the Faculty of Science in the year 2024:
2 new GAMU MASH JUNIOR STAR projects (MASH Junior Star creates conditions for exceptionally promising researchers shortly after Ph.D. to prepare for the submission of an application for a prestigious individual grant - GA ČR JUNIOR STAR, ERC, or others):
- Mgr. Lenka Sentenská, Ph.D. (Department of Botany and Zoology) - From May 1, 2024, the implementation phase of the project entitled Evolution of mating strategies in widow spiders (genus Latrodectus) will start.
- Pia Jurček, Ph.D. (Department of Chemistry) - From November 1, 2024, the implementation phase of the project entitled Photoswitchable metallosupramolecular cages as artificial enzymes will start.
4 new GAMU CAREER RESTART projects will start in January 2004. Career Restart is a grant for scientists who have interrupted their research careers, for example due to parental leave or other fundamental reasons. The category will facilitate and accelerate the return of young talented staff to productive scientific careers and increase the percentage of their representation in independent, senior research positions. The grant was awarded to: RNDr. Petra Kolísková, Ph.D (Department of Botany and Zoology); Flavia Landucci, Ph.D. (Department of Botany and Zoology); Mgr. Martina Dvořáčková, Ph.D. (National Centre for Biomolecular Research); Mgr. Anežka Sharma, Ph.D. (RECETOX, Environmental Chemistry and Modelling).
