I. New Successful Projects
Mgr. Tereza Jeřábková, PhD (Dept. of Theoretical Physics) gained funding of 25 000 000 CZK in GAMU Mash call 2024 with her project “Bridging Cosmic Scales: Understanding Star Formation from Molecular Clouds to Galactic Structures”. The project will start in the year 2025.
Assoc. Prof. Ivan Kushkevych (Dept. Of Experimental Biology) will become part of consortium “GoodByeO (Multi-commodities & sustainable microbial-driven BiOrefinery based on food-processing industry wastes, biogenic CO2 and bioprocess wastewaters)” funded from Horizon Europe. The support of almost 300 000 EUR will enable his team to contribute to design of a new generation biorefinery by including a significant proportion of carbon utilizing technologies.
Mgr. Jakub Kelar, Ph.D. (Dept. of Plasma Physics and Technology) succeeded in the call Applications within the Operational Programme Technology and Applications for Competitiveness with his partner project "In-line plasma modification of the underlying material to improve the adhesion of nanofibers produced by electrospinning" worth more than 26 mil. CZK. The grant will test a device for the application of a surface dielectric barrier discharge on the substrate material to increase the adhesion of nanofibres produced by electrospinning.

FALLING WALLS LAB CZECH REPUBLIC
On 12 September 2024, the National Technical Library will host the 9th edition of the international Falling Walls Lab Czech Republic competition, which aims to bring together the next generation of great scientists and innovators. They can come up with a breathtaking idea - a scientific project, a business plan or a social initiative that will break down all walls and barriers.
Competitors' presentations will be in English in a pitch-talk format that is no more than three minutes long. It does not matter whether the topic is computing or medicine, economics or engineering, philosophy, robotics, chemistry, art or agriculture - the competition is open to anyone who is convinced of their idea and can convince others of it. Students at all levels are welcome, even Ph.D. and postdocs. Registration is possible through Falling Walls Lab Czech Republic (falling-walls.com). The deadline for applications is 30 June 2024. The winner of the national round will represent the Czech Republic at the global final in Berlin.
