Kristína Krivdová, a student of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, achieved an outstanding success in the finals of the Czech-Slovak Student Scientific and Professional Activities Competition (SVOČ) in Mathematics and Informatics. The final round of the competition took place from 24 to 26 May 2026 at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice.
Competing against some of the best students from universities across the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Kristína impressed the expert jury with her project entitled “Optimizing the Transition from the Underwater Phase to Artistic Swimming Using IMU Sensors and Functional Data Analysis.” In the Applied Mathematics section (categories M7 + M8), she successfully combined advanced mathematical modelling with sports performance analysis and was awarded an excellent second place. In doing so, she continued the long-standing tradition of successful Masaryk University representatives in this prestigious competition.
SVOČ is one of the most important platforms for presenting student research in the fields of mathematics and informatics. Each year, outstanding students showcase their research results, which are evaluated by expert panels composed of leading academics.
Kristína Krivdová’s success highlights the excellent standard of research carried out by students at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, as well as their ability to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world and practical challenges.
