Scholarship Recipients from the U.S. at Universities and Research Institutions in the Czech Republic for the 2026/2027 Academic Year
Short-term visits (1–5 days):
Faculty members at universities and academic institutions in the Czech Republic may invite lecturers and researchers from the United States to participate in their courses and seminars. These individuals spend one or two semesters each year in the Czech Republic lecturing or conducting research as part of the Fulbright Program. An updated list of these scholars is available on the Fulbright Commission’s website:
https://www.fulbright.cz/stipendiste-a-absolventi/soucasni-stipendiste/
We strive to ensure that our grantees’ stays in the Czech Republic are utilized as intensively as possible. Therefore, we are happy to facilitate contact if any of the grantees would be suitable for an occasional lecture at a university or academic institution in the Czech Republic.
As part of an international exchange, it is also possible to invite scholars who are currently serving as Fulbright Program scholars in another European country for a short-term visit; a list of these scholars, along with information on how to proceed in the event of an invitation, is available at:
https://www.fulbright.cz/pro-skoly-a-univerzity/hostovani-americkych-akademiku/
The host institution in the Czech Republic covers only the guest’s accommodation; travel expenses are covered by the Fulbright Commission.
Applications are processed on an ongoing basis throughout the academic year.
Short-term visits (2–6 weeks):
In addition to the long-term fellowship program for American lecturers described above, the Fulbright Specialist Programme is available for short-term visits by specialists from the USA (lasting two to six weeks). The application form, terms and conditions, and program details are available at:
https://www.fulbright.cz/pro-skoly-a-univerzity/hostovani-americkych-akademiku/
The host institution in the Czech Republic covers its guest’s accommodation, meals, and, if necessary, local transportation. Honoraria and travel expenses, primarily airfare, are covered by the U.S. side. This program is particularly well-suited for establishing new contacts in fields and at institutions where such opportunities have not yet existed. The program is not intended for individual collaboration on research projects. Applications may be made specifically for a particular expert from the U.S. or generally for a representative of a specific field.
The application deadline is September 30, 2026, for stays in 2027.
Long-term Visits (1–2 Semesters):
If a university in the Czech Republic is interested in hosting a specific lecturer from the USA for one or two semesters, and if that U.S. candidate is willing and able to accept the invitation, the candidate must apply for a Fulbright grant in a timely manner. The application deadline for U.S. scholars and lecturers is September 15 for the following academic year. Details on the types of grants available to U.S. applicants can be found at:
https://fulbrightscholars.org/us-scholar-awards
All costs of the stay are covered by the Fulbright Commission; in the case of the Distinguished Fulbright Scholar program (for UK, MU, UP, CVUT, and CERGE), the host institution substantially co-funds the monthly stipend with an amount of $4,500 per month.
