Flavonols involved in the release of carbon monoxide in plants upon irradiation

Flavonoids are common constituents of plants. They play specific roles in many important phenomena, such as UV protection. However, UV-light absorption can trigger the production of small quantities of carbon monoxide (CO). CO exerts many positive effects in important physiological processes, and this project is aimed to uncover a correlation between the flavonols as CO-releasing compounds and the already reported production of CO under UV-exposure of plants.
