The metalophosphonates are exceptional materials since the multifunctional phosphonate units can combine with plenty of metals and can contain a variety of functional organic groups controlling the material characteristics. We combine the phosphonate units with zirconium via nonhydrolytic solgel methods and design the xerogel to be mesoporous which is crucial for catalytic activity. Thanks to those advanced techniques we are able to catalyze bulky organic molecules for fine chemicals syntheses.
