The Faculty Academic Senate has decided that at the beginning of February next year, when the second term of the current Dean, Tomáš Kašparovský, comes to an end, Luděk Bláha, currently Vice-Dean for Doctoral Studies at the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, will assume the position for the next four years. The Senate’s decision must still be confirmed by the Rector, who will officially appoint the new Dean.

The Academic Senate selected from three candidates: Luděk Bláha, Vice-Dean for Doctoral Studies at the Faculty of Science, MU; Michal Bulant, Vice-Rector for Education and Quality at MU; and Karel Kubíček, Associate Professor at the Department of Physics and Condensed Matter, Faculty of Science, MU.

Luděk Bláha received the majority of votes required for election in the second round of secret voting, with 18 of the 26 senators present voting in his favor.

“I would like to thank the senators for their trust. This marks a new stage for me. In the next four years, I want the faculty to be an internationally recognized place for the best scientists and motivated students, as well as a workplace where employees feel satisfied,” said Bláha after the election.

After being appointed by the Rector, Luděk Bláha is expected to take office as Dean on February 1, 2026.
