The catalogue has been created for the purpose of improvement of teaching of somatoscopy with the help of the Masaryk University Development Fund and two projects of the University Development Fund. The first was the project FRVŠ/2036/2010/F4/d researched at the Department of Anthropology of the Faculty of Science of MU in 2010 (the output consisted of the basic form of the catalogue and somatoscopic traits of face and body in 2D schemes). The second project was FRVŠ/151/2013/G4 researched through the cooperation of the Department of Visual Computing of the Faculty of Informatics of MU and the Department of Anthropology of the Faculty of Science of MU in 2013 (the 3D facial traits were the output in this case). In 2015, within the project MUNI/FR/1843/2014, somatoscopic facial traits have been incorporated into the 3D head models, teaching texts have been added and the current appearance of the catalogue has been created. In 2018, new somatoscopic signs on the ears, human body and limbs were incorporated into the database as part of the project MUNI / FR / 1272/2017. The atlas was also translated into English.
