Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from CzeSEV!

Dear CzeSEV members and friends of extracellular vesicles,

as the holiday season approaches, we take the opportunity to reflect on an eventful 2024 and eagerly anticipate the promise of 2025. From all of us at CzeSEV, we wish you a joyful season filled with laughter, love, and cherished moments.

A Look Back at 2024 Highlights:

1. Successful Inaugural Meeting

February 2024 marked the first-ever CzeSEV meeting in Brno, attended by over 30 researchers. This event showcased research group presentations and sparked fruitful discussions, laying the foundation for a strong community. (more)

Save the date for next year! The annual CzeSEV meeting is scheduled for 11th November 2025 at BIOCEV in Prague. More details bellow!

2. Official Establishment of CzeSEV

In March 2024, CzeSEV was officially established as an association. Members now enjoy exclusive benefits such as reduced event fees, voting rights, and access to fellowships like MOVE. (more)

3. ASEV-CzeSEV Meeting in Vienna

The joint meeting, held on September 16–17, 2024, united EV researchers from around the world, showcasing Czech EV research on the international stage for the first time.

This milestone event was made possible thanks to the dedication of participants, organizers, student volunteers, and sponsors. We are excited to share that a summary of the event has been accepted for publication in the EVCNA Journal, now an official partner of CzeSEV. Additionally, CzeSEV members also enjoy a 15% discount on Article Processing Charges when publishing in the journal.

Thank you for being part of this incredible journey. We look forward to reaching new milestones and building exciting collaborations in the year ahead.

Highlights from the 2nd MOVE Symposium 2024

The 2nd MOVE Symposium was held in Belgrade, with active participation from CzeSEV members. This event provided an excellent platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration within the MOVE community. The symposium fostered a welcoming and collaborative environment, enabling productive discussions and idea-sharing among researchers. CzeSEV members gained valuable insights and formed connections that will support future projects. (more)

CzeSEV Membership in MOVE: Fellowship and Host Lab Opportunities

CzeSEV is an active member of MOVE, an initiative designed to strengthen collaboration among European EV societies. While the annual MOVE Symposium serves as a key networking and knowledge-sharing event, MOVE's primary goal is the Mobility for Vesicles research in Europe program. Through this program, the MOVE European Mobility Fellowship offers Early Career Researchers the chance to travel to partner labs across Europe. This fellowship helps participants develop advanced technical skills and expand their professional networks. (more about MOVE)

Opportunities for CzeSEV Members

  • Apply for a MOVE Scholarship: Are you interested in advancing your research skills through the MOVE Fellowship? CzeSEV members are eligible to apply for this competitive opportunity. Let us know if you’d like to apply in future!
  • Host Early Career Researchers: Would you like to welcome PhD students or early-career researchers from Europe to your lab? Join the community of host labs supporting this program. Contact us at czesev@sci.muni.cz to express your interest.

CzeSEV Community Showcases Research Across the Czech Republic

T Cell Workshop 2024: A Collaborative Milestone

The first T Cell Workshop was held at Masaryk University in Brno, organized by students from Brno and Prague under the Czech Young Immunologists (CYI) platform.

The workshop featured 16 expert lectures, including Irma Schabussova’s compelling talk, “It Takes a Village: Collaborative Strategies to Study Extracellular Vesicles in Interspecies Communication.” Topics covered ranged from T cell development and migration to autoimmune diseases, sepsis, and the immunomodulatory roles of extracellular vesicles.

Combining theoretical insights with practical applications, the workshop offered a dynamic platform for young immunology researchers to learn and connect.

Czech Annual Cancer Research Meeting 2024: Advancing Science, Networking, and New Connections

From November 18 to 20, over 300 experts from Czech and international science gathered in Olomouc for the Czech Annual Cancer Research Meeting (CACR 2024). Organized by the MedChemBio cluster, National Institute for Cancer Research, and the European Infrastructure for Translational Medicine, the event featured 60 presentations, highlighting advancements in cancer research. Vendula Pospichalová presented a talk in Early Cancer Detection and Prevention section titled “Proteomics of ascitic extracellular vesicles reveals tumor microenvironment in ovarian cancer.”

The conference covered key topics such as molecular targets, metastasis prevention, personalized therapies, early cancer detection, and cancer prevention. "We are honored to witness the best in cancer research from both the Czech Republic and abroad, welcoming scientists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals dedicated to understanding and fighting cancer," said Marián Hajdúch, President of CACR 2024, underscoring the conference's role in fostering global collaboration and innovation.

48th Advances in Molecular Biology and Genetics 2024

Introducing Extracellular Vesicles to PhD Students

The prestigious two-week lecture course, Advances in Molecular Biology and Genetics, took place this November, organized by the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences in collaboration with Doctoral Study Programmes in Biomedicine at Charles University and the Czech Academy of Sciences.

This year’s program featured a range of cutting-edge topics, including a lecture by Vendula Hlaváčková Pospíchalová titled "Ovarian Cancer and Extracellular Vesicles". This talk, presented within the Biomedicine, Cancer module, offered PhD students insights into the role of extracellular vesicles in ovarian cancer research and their potential applications in biomedicine.

The course continues to be a cornerstone for advancing the knowledge of young scientists and promoting discussions on emerging topics in molecular biology and genetics.
