I. New Successful Projects
- The successful GAMU MASH JUNIOR 2022 - MUNI Award In Science and Humanities JUNIOR will be awarded to Dr. Peter Fabian from the Department of Experimental Biology. Dr. Peter Fabian will explore “Molecular mechanisms of development and maintenance of the vertebrate head”.
- Doc. Lubomír Tichý from the Department of Botany and Zoology succeeded in the Programme Environment, Ecosystems and Climate Change from the EEA and Norway Grants 2014-2021 - under the Call "Rago". His project will examine “Regional seed mixtures as an effective tool for the conservation of grassland habitat diversity”.
- Doc. Norbert Werner from the Department of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics was awarded funding for his project called the “Quick Ultra-VIolet Kilonova surveyor”. The project will be funded by the European Space Agency's tender Ambitious Projects for the Czech Republic. It is a technology project focused on Czech suppliers; the scientific content is coordinated by MU with the involvement of other entities.
- Doc. Jan Cempírek from the Department of Geological Sciences succeeded as a coordinator in the TACR ERA-MIN call. The project entitled as "Evolved magmatic and pegmatitic systems as sources of lithium, critical raw materials, and industrial minerals" (PegMat) started on 1st May 2022 and will last for 3 years.
- All five projects of Masaryk University have succeeded in the call of the MEYS, National Recovery and Resilience Plan, 5.1 - EXCELES. The projects will be implemented between 2022 and 2025 with a total financial allocation of CZK 200 millions for the Faculty of Science. FoS will be involved in the creation of five national authorities in the research areas supported by the call:
- The study of infectious diseases and virology (Department of Experimental Biology) - Oncology (Department of Experimental Biology, RECETOX, Department of Biochemistry) - Neurosciences or the study of neurodegenerative and other types of neurological diseases (RECETOX) - Metabolic and cardiovascular diseases; (Department of Experimental Biology, RECETOX) - The Social and economic impact of systemic health risks (RECETOX)

II. Upcoming Calls
- MOBILITY (MEYS): open call for czech – austrian projects, czech – german projects and czech – french – projects. Czech researches can apply for subsidy to cover travel costs for their visits to partners or for the stay of foreign researchers in the Czech Republic. Principal investigator must have Ph.D. degree. Deadline: 30. 6. 2022 (Please note, that the proposal must be signed by the rector. That´s why you have to prepare your proposals earlier (Faculty deadline: 21.6.2022). - EIG CONCERT JAPAN (MEYS): open call for project proposals on the theme: “Design of Materials with Atomic Precisions”. The aim is to support cooperation between european and japanese researchers and develop new designs of material with atomic precisions. Reaserchers can ask for subsidy to cover personnel costs, material costs or travel costs. Each project must have at least 3 partners (1 from Japan and 2 from different European countries). - GAČR international collaborative LA grants: with German agency DFG – call open continuously, Austrian agency FWF – call open continuously, American NSF - call open continuously, Luxembourg agency FNR – deadline on 28.4.2022 and Swiss agency SNSF – deadline on 1.10.2022 for CZ . - TAČR M-ERA.NET 3 Call 2022: Supports international collaborations in the field of material research and innovation that address one of the six topics: (1) Materials for energy, (2) Innovative surfaces, coatings and interfaces, (3) High performance composites, (4) Functional materials, (5) New strategies for advanced material-based technologies in health applications (regenerative medicine is not supported), (6) Materials for electronics. - TAČR DOPRAVA 2020+ 4th Call: Supports individual or collaborative project of applicable research aiming to enhance the development of the transport sector in the Czech Republic to reflect current social needs and accelerate the technological progress. - TAČR TREND – there are launched 2 Calls in the Subprogramme 1 – „Technology leaders“:
- 6th Call is aimed at supporting the creation of R&D results and their use for own business activities in enterprises that already have experience with the implementation of research and development by their own capacities or in enterprises that have experience with the purchase of R&D services from research organisations, but have not yet developed their own R&D activities. - 7th Call is aimed at supporting projects dealing with the development of 5G and higher (5G) technologies and is funded by the National Recovery Plan under Component 1.3 entitled Digital High Capacity Networks and its investment "Research activities related to the development of 5G networks and services". - TAČR Delta 2 - 4th Call: Supports international bilateral cooperation in applied research between Czech enterprises and research organisations and their foreign partners supported the foreign partner organisation, more informaton available HERE. Faculty deadline: 1. 7.2022.
- OPSEC 1st Call 2022: Czech Ministry of Interior opens call for research projects in one of the three areas: (1) Development of law enforcement capabilities, (2) Crisis preparedness of security and rescue forces or (3) Resilient society. - AZV 2023: The Call is aimed at applied medical research and is divided into 2 subprogrammes:
- Subprogramme 1 – Standard Call (the main objective is to further develop the existing platform for medical applied research in the Czech Republic and to focus on improving the conditions for the development of international cooperation) - Subprogramme 2 - Projects for young scientists (max. 35 years old)
If the project proposal requires assessment by MU Research Ethics Committee (REC), you can find instructions here. Deadline for submission to MU REC is at the latest until 02/06/2022; 6 PM. More information about this call is available HERE. Faculty information is being prepared.
- INTERREG EUROPE: for 4 years-long interregional projects that aim to improve the implementation of regional policies and interregional institutional cooperation, especially by sharing and transferring good practices, transferring innovative solutions and exchanging experiences. A partnership of entities from at least 3 EU MS is required. Supported are especially soft non-investment activities, applicant's own co-financing is 10-20% of the eligible costs. - FEBS Excellence Award - supports research projects in the molecular life science from early-career group leaders (max. 6 years since PhD). Two rounds of submission and evaluation. Deadline for the 1st stage 1.7.2022. More information available HERE.
- DIOSCURI: 5 years-long projects support establishing new research group by talented early career scientists in the Czech Republic with scientific and managerial mentorship from senior researcher in Germany. Deadline 25.7.2022. More information available HERE.
- Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships 2022: research training connected with mobility within EU (European PF) or outside EU with compulsory return phase (Global PF). - Hop On Facility: enables a partner from a Widening country (ie Czech Republic) to join already successful consortium and get a financial support. You can join only collaborative projects from Pillar 2 and EIC Pathfinder Pillar 3 calls (listed on the link below), which do not have a partner from Widening country yet. - ERC Starting: supports excellent early career scientists (2-7 years of experience in research) and their teams to pursue groundbreaking high-risk / high-gain research. You can apply for up to 1,5 mil. EUR for 5 years. Deadline 25.10.2022. More information available HERE.
- Marie Sklodowska-Curie Doctoral Networks 2022: PhD training network based on joint research project conducted by collaborating investigators and their PhD students from min. 3 institutions from min. 3 EU Member or Associated States. III. Other News
- Reminder for GACR projects ending in 2022: We would like to remind you that it is necessary to spend the funds in FÚUP by 30.6.2022 for GAČR projects ending in 2022. In case you will have any money left over in FÚUP, please inform us in advance so that we have an overview of the reason why you have not exhausted the funds.
- OP JAK - Operational Programme Jan Amos Komensky - On 18 May 2022, the Managing Authority of the OP JAK announced the call No. 02_22_001 Teaming-CZ I to support projects successful in the Teaming for Excellence call of the Horizon Europe programme (HORIZON-WIDERA-2022-ACCESS-01-01-two-stage), which aims to develop centres of excellence through collaboration with a foreign leading scientific institution. This particular call is not relevant for the Faculty of Science, it is a call for projects that have passed both rounds of the Teaming for Excellence (HE) call and have been selected for funding. Similar calls will be launched in future years. OP JAK is moving towards final approval, which will take place on 6/2022. After that, further calls can be expected to be published.

- E-learning of Technological Centre AV ČR: short video presenting the tools and options for searching partners and presenting your research for future collaborative HORIZON EUROPE projects can be seen HERE.
- MU scientists can use CROWDHELIX online platform for free to search and directly contact potential partners for collaborative projects of HORIZON EUROPE. You can also present your own profile and advertise your own demand for specific expertise for your project. If you need help with using Crowdhelix or other partner search tool, contact Veronika Mikitová.
- Horizon Europe Young Observer – MSc. students can apply to become observers during evaluation of Horizon Europe projects. This is a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience that can boost your future professional career. Any research field is eligible. Call is continuously open until 14.12.2022.
