Peruvian Serrano

C. frutescens?, 1½x1/3" tapered, pendent red fruits on 1½x1½' plants. This was difficult to place to species, but I am putting in C. frutescens due to small, greenish flowers and lack of smokey-tropical fruit aroma. Only 1 of 4 plants came true to 2000 Yearbook description, the others appear as the picture on the left and had 2x½" pendent, bumpy, tapered deep orange fruits.

Pre-1900 African American heirloom from catering family of P. Albert Dutrieuille (PA), H. Pippin to my grandfather. Oral history suggests that the Dutrieulle brought it with them from Haiti. Was briefly offered in the 1890's by Philadelphia seed houses as 'Black Nubian', and mentioned in late 1800's cookbooks.
