aka Pipperidge Pepper. Introduced by John Bartram (1760) to Trenton, NJ, on the estate of Sir John St. Claire. From there it was passed on to the Cooper Family of Cooper's Pt. near Camden, NJ, and then to Mahlon Moon, a Quaker nurseryman at Morrisville, Bucks Co., PA. These latter two families disseminated seeds widely among early and mid-1800's gardeners in the Philadelphia & Baltimore region. These seeds came from the collection of Dr. George Thomas (1808-1887) via M.L. Thomas (1975).
