Our laboratory is interested in the isolation and characterization of extracellular and intracellular vesicles with a special focus on proteomics. We are involved in the isolation and analysis of vesicles from various biological materials such as plasma, serum, urine, cell culture media, and different types of tissues.

We started our research on extracellular vesicles around 2015 by studying protein and miRNA markers in urinary exosomes of nephrology patients. We then started collaborating on other research topics in the field of skin tumors or studying the role of extracellular vesicles in insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.

We are currently working on a wide range of topics in cooperation with the Institute of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, the Institute of Physiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, the Institute of Anatomy of the 1st Faculty of Medicine of the Charles University and the Clinic of Nephrology of the General University Hospital and 1st Faculty of Medicine of the Charles University.

The techniques we use are ultracentrifugation and gradient ultracentrifugation, nanoparticle tracking analysis, electron microscopy, western blotting proteomics, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, RT-PCR, and more.
