On April 29, 2025, the opening meeting of the PannFlora project took place at Masaryk University in Brno. The project aims to adapt grasslands in the Pannonian region through regional seed and ecological management. The event brought together 38 experts from academia, municipalities, NGOs, and green space management from the Czech Republic and Austria.
The introductory speech was delivered by Daniel Kopkáně from CzechGlobe, who emphasized the importance of grasslands in urban environments and their potential to respond to climate change. This was followed by a presentation by project coordinator Kateřina Knotková, who introduced the goals and focus of PannFlora.
Participants then split into two working groups. The first group, led by Jakub Těšitel, focused on selecting appropriate species for Pannonian seed mixtures and discussed ecological requirements and cultivation options. The second group, led by Kateřina Knotková, focused on grassland maintenance and the specifics of ecological management in the Pannonian region.
The programme continued with a field excursion showcasing experiments with different mowing regimes, the use of hemiparasitic plants, and selected species for the Pannonian seed mixtures. The meeting not only fostered new contacts and experience sharing but also helped define the cooperation framework and finalize the selection of species for future implementation.
