The Department of Biochemistry guarantees a new profession-oriented study programme “Biotechnology” concluded with the degree Ing. This programme, accredited only in Czech language, follows directly the bachelor’s degree study programme Biochemistry; however, it is open to all applicants from related disciplines. It aims to set university-educated experts up for the practice in both companies and academic teams. The study opens in autumn term 2020. The students who end their bachelor studies can apply from February, the entrance exam is the bachelor's state final exam – in Czech see here.

The programme is based on the interdisciplinary character of biotechnologies, whose common features are metabolic conversions realised by various organisms. Emphasis is put on teaching subjects that represent the general basis of every biotechnological process: Bioengineering (processes and equipment in biochemical reactors), Gene Technologies, selection of modern technological processes (using stem- and other animal cells, plant biotechnology, and biotechnology in pharmacy and biomedicine). Further, the study plans include Enzyme Biotechnology, Biosensors, Nanobiotechnology, laboratory courses and seminars, obligatory practical training in companies. Cooperation with leading biotechnological companies enables the applicants to work out the diploma- and doctoral theses in company research projects in their laboratories (besides the option of traditional procedures in the faculty or academic departments).

The graduates will find their employments in biotechnological companies, in research, development, and in technological operation. General basis of required disciplines enables them to adapt flexibly to particular companies and bioprocesses. They can also apply for academic positions in the departments of Academy of Sciences or research facilities focused on biochemical or biotechnological research.
