Another success for young Czech chemists on the international stage

The Czech team of chemists from technical schools specializing in chemistry is celebrating phenomenal success this year. At the 17th annual Grand Prix Chimique 2025 international chemistry competition, which was attended by a total of 10 countries and 20 representatives from across Europe, Vojtěch Langer (Secondary Industrial School of Chemistry and Gymnasium Brno, Vranovská, now a first-year student in the bachelor's program in CHEMISTRY at the Institute of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Masaryk University) took third place overall and Tomáš Holub (Secondary Industrial School of Chemistry and Gymnasium Brno, Vranovská) took second place overall. In addition, Vojtěch Langer has been working at the Laboratory of Applied Quantum Chemistry at the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, since high school and received first place in the national competition in the field of chemistry for his Secondary School Scientific Activity.

This is the best result ever achieved by the Czech team at this international competition, in which students from secondary vocational schools specializing in chemistry test their skills in a demanding practical contest. During the several-day laboratory competition, our chemists synthesized vanillin using a three-step synthesis and performed a comprehensive analysis of wastewater, focusing on the determination of nitrogen in all its usual forms using both classical and modern instrumental methods.

We would like to thank the students for their excellent international representation of Czech chemistry and wish them much success in their future studies and personal lives. Long live chemistry!
