Meet Our New HR Award Team 👋
The new HR Award team would like to introduce themselves—and they’re doing it a bit differently than you’re used to. Want to see how?
Students who prepared their work at Masaryk University’s Faculty of Science (SCI MUNI) achieved excellent results in the final round of the 46th national Secondary Vocational Activities (SOČ) competition, which took place in Pardubice at the end of June. A student from the Secondary Technical School of Chemistry in Brno, Vojtěch Langer, won the Chemistry section.
Vojtěch Langer, whose supervisor was Hugo Semrád at the Department of Chemistry, SCI MUNI, succeeded with his work on ‘Quantum-chemical analysis of dienophiles with halomethyl substituents for the ‘Diels-Alder reaction’. Among the other “young chemists”, Olivia Maya Matyasková from the Gymnasium in Šlapanice took third place, with her work on ‘the Diels-Alder reaction of new benzoquinones’, which she prepared under the supervision of Kamil Paruch, also from the Department of Chemistry, SCI MUNI.
Klára Synková, under the guidance of Ivy Sovadinová from the RECETOX Centre, took third place in the category ‘Protection and creation of the environment’, with her work on ‘Male Reproductive Health and the Substances Around Us’, while Pavlína Mrláková and Sára Honková took second place in the category ‘Agriculture, food industry, forestry and water management’, with their work on ‘The Impact of Lay Adjustments on Pesticide Levels in Fruit’, which they jointly developed under the guidance of Rozárka Jílková of RECETOX.
This year, SCI MUNI were partners in four SOČ categories, 04 - Biology, Geography and Geology; 05 - Molecular Biology; 06 – Healthcare; and 12 - Creation of teaching aids, didactic technology. Together with the other partner institutes, SCI MUNI presented awards to the three best works in each category.
The results for all categories in the SOČ 2024 national final, including links to video presentations of the projects, are available HERE. Congratulations to all the winners, and to all the successful participants who devoted themselves enthusiastically and diligently to their SOČ.

A year ago, Science magazine listed altermagnets as one of nine breakthrough discoveries. Now, physicists from the Masaryk University’s Faculty of Science in Brno and Osaka Metropolitan University have come up with results that further advance our understanding of this new type of magnetic material.
