Meet Our New HR Award Team 👋
The new HR Award team would like to introduce themselves—and they’re doing it a bit differently than you’re used to. Want to see how?
This year's Open Day, organised by our students, attracted approximately 500 interested high school students. Future applicants learned details about the study programmes offered, the admissions process and about studying itself.
This year’s Open Day, which took place on October 19 on both SCI MUNI campuses, was aimed mainly at those high school students in their third and fourth years. Visitors received a basic overview of potential study options and were able to have a look at the well-equipped laboratories and modern classrooms at the Bohunice University Campus.
According to the faculty coordinator, Mgr. Bc. Lenka Jurasová, the event was carefully structured: “The introductory part of the visit to the campus offered clear information about study programmes, followed by an inspiring Student2student lecture. There were then tours of individual departments and workplaces, where interactive programmes awaited the visitors. Finally, the high school students could chat informally with current students, who provided them with valuable advice on choosing a programme, managing their study load and opportunities for extra income during their studies. They also received practical tips about life in Brno, including the advantages and challenges. Finally, the visitors had some fun with quizzes and competitions for interesting prizes”.
The event combined an educational element with possibilities for personal contact and presented, in a playful way, what it means to be a SCI MUNI student.

The Open Day programme at Kotlářská was introduced by the faculty coordinator, Bc. Berenika Chromá: “At Kotlářská, we started with a tour of the campus, during which the applicants learned where the individual departments were located and where they could find key sites, such as the study departments, the canteen or the bicycle shed. An introductory lecture in the auditorium then described the atmosphere of university education and introduced the MUNI admissions system, including the possibility of waiving the entrance exam”.
One of the programme’s main attractions was the Science Fair, where students from the different departments gave interactive presentations and then made themselves available so that interested parties could ask questions about everything from study programmes to research focus to involvement in actual scientific work during their studies. The programme also included demonstrations of experiments and excursions to special departmental areas, such as laboratories, the map room and the collections.

A big thank you goes to all the students involved, and to both faculty coordinators for organising the event, which introduced applicants not only to their potential study options but also to the unique atmosphere of SCI MUNI.

A year ago, Science magazine listed altermagnets as one of nine breakthrough discoveries. Now, physicists from the Masaryk University’s Faculty of Science in Brno and Osaka Metropolitan University have come up with results that further advance our understanding of this new type of magnetic material.
