A complex project aimed at the further development of dipterological studies in the Department of Zoology and Ecology, Faculty of Science, Masaryk University in Brno. The proposed research will be concentrated on the following partial projects: (1) A key to the identification of Central European Muscidae that will cover the territory of Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary and will be accompanied by an overview of the morphology of immature stages and adults, development and biology, medical, hygienic and economic importance, summarizing data on the distribution of the individual species, etc.; (2) Biosystematic and ecological studies on Oriental Stratiomyidae focused on developmental stages associated with b amboo forests in Malaysia and taxonomy of some taxonomically difficult Oriental genera (e.g. Ptecticus and Odontomyia); (3) Ephydridae of the Czech Republic, a revisional study of the shore flies on the territory of Bohemia and Moravia which were mostly
