Regarding to the absence of actual data, the proposed project will be intented on the species composition and distribution of vertebrates of the Nikolo Koba National Park (Senegal). In case of small mammal species the research will be concentrated on systematically difficult to assign and yet little explored groups of species. Our desire is to contribute to its systematic classification and status by the application of modern genetic methods. Study on ungulates will be concentrated on their foraging ecology. Special attention will be paid to the period of dry season in connection with the large area fires, which are, for population density of ungulates, limiting factor. The ichthyological research will be focused on the fish communities of periodical pools and streams with the aim to find out the dynamic of tis abundance and survival ot the particular species and their migration capacity. All research activities will be connected with the parazitological examination.
