The proposed project will elucidate in greater detail the patterns of paleobiogeographical evolution of calcareous foraminifers and conodonts at the Gondwana-Laurussia contact as well as to examine the character of lithologic and eustatic oscill ations and changes. The project will synthesize the dispersed data on Upper Devonian and Lower Carboniferous paleobiogeography and basin analysis with emphasis on the differential impact on biotic and abiotic changes in the Gondwanan and Laurussian affinity terranes. The results will serve for paleogeographic and paleotectonic interpretations with impact on broader questions of the evolution of Variscides. The project will be a contribution to a broader international effort to relate the crustal dynamics (with respect to paleotectonic terrane concept) to Mid-Paleozoic biogeography within the IGCP Project Nr. 421 ´North Gondwanan Mid-Paleozoic bioevent/biogeography patterns in relation to crustal dynamics´.
