Synthesis and study of Z-vinylene-phenanthrene oligomers (ZVPO)

Unique synthetic methodology, developed in our lab, allows us to install Z-vinylene functional group between aromatic rings via Pd catalysed cross-coupling reactions. Applying this unique technology to phenanthrene creates extended arylene-Z-vinylene systems which used to be quite elusive due to limited synthetic methodology which usually leads to E-vinylene systems.
This can lead to a group of new potentially interesting compounds such as helicenes.
