The plasmachemical deposition of protective coatings in different types of discharges (radiofrequency capacitively or inductively coupled glow discharges at decreased pressure, microwave and barrier discharges, atmospheric pressure glow discharge APG, p lasma pencil) will be studied. The first main part of the project is the preparation of a multilayer system protecting polycarbonate against mechanical damages and degradation by UV radiation. Some organosilicon compounds, e.g. hexamethyldisiloxane will be used as monomer. The result should be a graduated layer transparent in the visible, well adherent to polycarbonate and with the hardness comparable to glass. The second main part of the research is the deposition of superhard films such as amorphous d iamond like carbon (DLC) films, DLC with addition of silicon, nanocomposite films based on CNx and microcrystalline diamond films. The study of optical and mechanical film properties as well as their composition and structure will be supplemented by plas
