Our botanists are studying the flora of the Žítková meadows in the White Carpathians. With up to 50 plant species per square meter, including rare orchids, the meadows are recognised worldwide as unique in terms of number of species.
“In a few years, these meadows could become overgrown with Chee reed grass. This tall grass, presently kept down by mowing, produces a large amount of old dry growth that covers the entire surface of the meadow and most other plants have no chance to compete with it." said Michal Hájek from the Department of Botany and Zoology, Faculty of Science, MU.

The Czech national team achieved an extraordinary triumph at the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO 2025), a prestigious competition for high school students from around the world. The event, held in Jining, China, from August 7 to 17, 2025, tested both theoretical knowledge and practical skills across disciplines such as geology, hydrology, climatology, astronomy, and environmental science. In addition, the competition evaluated research capabilities and teamwork.
