1. One-semester scholarship

   The Faculty of Arts awards six and the Department of Czech for Foreigners awards four three-month scholarships. Each of these scholarships pays 8.000 Czech crowns per month for the study of Czech language, literature and culture. These scholarships run from October to December and are intended for students interested in Czech Studies.

   Applicants should have good knowledge of the Czech language in order to be able to follow lectures and attend seminars conducted in Czech.

   This scholarship does not include health insurance.

   Applications with a brief CV and at least one letter of recommendation from a professor of Czech should be submitted no later than April 30 for the following Autumn Semester.

2. Two-semester doctoral scholarship

   The Faculty of Arts awards a two-semester scholarship to a doctoral student to carry out research in any of the fields of teaching and research at the Faculty of Arts. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a doctoral degree programme at their home university. The scholarship is intended to allow the recipient to carry out research at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University.

   The scholarship is awarded for 10 months, paid in monthly installments of 9.000 CZK. The scholarship holder is exempt from tuition fees. Accommodation may be reserved in a double room in the university residence (for approximately 3,000 CZK/month). Travel costs and health insurance are the responsibility of the student. The Faculty of Arts cannot grant any other financial assistance for studies, accommodation, etc.

   The application deadline for the scholarship is 28 February. The selection is made by the chair of the respective doctoral programme at the Faculty of Arts. Applicants will be informed of the result of the selection process, usually by April 30.

There are four CEEPUS networks at the Faculty of Arts MU:

at the Department of Czech Language, at the Department for Study of Religions, at the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures and at the Department of Czech Literature and Library Studies. If you can´t apply through the CEEPUS network, you still have a chance to apply as a CEEPUS freemover. For more detailed information and application please  see the CEEPUS websites. If You can´t apply through any of the above mentioned programme, You can still become an exchange student at the Faculty of Arts - You can become a freemover student. The status of a freemover can be given to a foreign university student for a short period (1 or 2 semesters) of studies at the Faculty of Arts within the degree programme of any department. As tuition at the Faculty is in the Czech language, the student’s knowledge of Czech must be at a sufficient level to follow lectures and seminars. In the Departments of English and American Studies, Romance Languages and Literatures, and German and Scandinavian Studies, the majority of teaching is in the respective language and a knowledge of Czech is thus less necessary (or not necessary at all). The decision about the application is made by the head of the relevant department. During this short-term stay, a Free-mover can study at the Faculty of Arts under the same conditions as Czech students: there are no tuition or other fees, students are permitted to use the Faculty library, use computer facilities etc. The student may be helped with booking accommodation in student residences.

Free-mover students may not receive any scholarship or other financial support. Travel costs and health insurance are the responsibility of the student. For the Autumn Semester the application must be sent by 30 May and for the Spring Semester by 30 November.
