Climate and pre-industrial subsistence crises in Finland

Prof. Dr. Heli Huhtamaa works at the Institute of History of the University of Bern, where he deals with environmental history and historical climatology with a focus on the Nordic countries. She holds doctorates in history and climate science and is a recent recipient of an ERC Starting Grant (VolCOPE) focused on the impact of past volcanic eruptions on human society.

In her contribution, she will focus on the area of Finland in the pre-industrial era, the social crisis at that time and the effect of the climate on it
