Libor Grubhoffer becomes a member of the Scientific Board

Libor Grubhoffer, Director of the Biological Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) in České Budějovice, has been appointed as a new external member of the Scientific Board of the Masaryk University (MU) Faculty of Science. He was welcomed into office at the meeting of the Scientific Council on September 29 2021 by the Dean of the Faculty, Tomáš Kašparovský.

prof. RNDr. Libor Grubhoffer, CSc., hon. D.Sc. (*1957)

  • Prof. Grubhoffer studied biochemistry at the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague.
  • He completed his postgraduate studies in the field of microbiology / virology at the Institute of Sera and Vaccines and at the Institute of Microbiology of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in Prague.
  • From 1992 to 1993, he worked at the University of Arizona in Tucson, USA.
  • From 1994 to 2002, he was the Director of the CAS Institute of Parasitology.
  • In 2001, he was appointed Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology and Genetics.
  • From 2004 to 2011, he worked as the Dean of the Faculty of Biology (Faculty of Natural Sciences since 1 August 2007) at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice.
  • Since 2007, he has been the guarantor of cross-border study in Biological Chemistry, a joint Bachelor’s and Master’s program at JU and Johannes Kepler University in Linz.
  • From 2012 to 2016, he was the Rector of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice.
  • In 2015, he was elected a member of the Learned Society of the Czech Republic.
  • In 2016, he was appointed a member of the Council of the National Accreditation Office for Higher Education.
  • In 2016, he received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Arizona in Tucson, USA.
  • He is presently working on the biochemistry and molecular biology of ticks and tick-borne pathogens, particularly tick-borne encephalitis virus and Lyme borreliosis spirochetes, at the Institute of Parasitology of the CAS Biological Centre and the Faculty of Science of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice.
  • He is the author or co-author of 150 scientific publications.
