The research of benthic macroinvertebrates in standing waters of Europe is well developed today. Till this time, it have been targeted especially on lakes (e. g. FJELDSA 1977, MALLORY et al. 1994), which almost does not have direct use in our country. The most common type of standing waters in Czech Republic are fishponds. They belong to typical phenomenons of czech landscape since Middle Ages, which don´t have analogy anywhere in the world. Many authors have been engaged in the research of water macroinvertebrates in these ecosystems in our country, especially in connection with fish farming; more attention was paid to plankton (e.g. PŘIKRYL 1996), less to benthic organisms (e.g. KUBÍČEK 1984, DYKYJOVÁ & KVĚT 1978). Up to these days, there don´t exist unified sampling methods, whose importance is expressing especially recently in connection with requirements for fast and quality assessment of actual fishpond status (e.g. according to the Water Framework Directive: Directive 2000/60/EC of the European Parliament of the Council of 23 October 2000: Establishing a Frame-work for Community Action in the Field of Water Policy. Official Journal L 327: 1-73.). Also during the study at universities students are in contact with various hydrobiological methods. Many of them are suitable for use only in specific cases and also the sampling devices are often unavailable and expensive. Therefore, the development of new, simple and standardized hydrobiological methods is very desirable today.
Our proposed project will be targeted on the development of methods for collection of aquatic macroinvertebrates in fishpond littoral, on the improvement of education of limnological methods at Faculty of Science and on the research of animals living in pond littoral macrophyte beds in connection with fish farming.
