The aim of this project is the theoretical and experimental study of phase transformation processes and final thermodynamic equilibria in transition metals based systems with N and C. The attention will be given especially to the multicomponent thermodyn amic systems Fe-Cr-X-Y-N (X,Y = Mn, Ni Mo) and Ti-V-N-C, which correspond to the widely studied modern materials as high nitrogen steels and Ti-based alloys. There is also close relation between both systems, because titanium and vanadium form complex ca rbonitrides, often precipitating in Fe- based systems. The experimental part is aimed towards the study of kinetics of phase transformations and structure of states close to thermodynamic equilibrium, obtained by long-term annealing at higher temperature s. The temperature and concentration regions are selected with respect to results of previous studies of this research team and existing literature data. Analytical electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction will be used for the evaluation of the experime
