Research activities within the Physics department cover broad aspects, from molecules and fundamental physical forces to advanced technologies and materials (Department of Condensed Matter Physics). Our research teams focus on the structural, electronic and vibratory properties of bulk and layered materials and characterisation and application of low-temperature plasma and ionised gases (Department of Physical Electronics). Theoretical physics research at the Institute for Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics covers the modern theories of gravity and their quantification (superstring theory and loop quantum gravity), astrophysics of hot stars, as well as biophysical research on the structural properties of biomolecules.
